2008-08-03 I came across an interesting website that did research into the new car smell. Apparently car manufacturers are using chemicals to make their cars more attractive which is basically the same what they do with our food. The Ecocenter is a nonprofit organization and they did research with special sensors and it appears that in some cases more chemicals are being released into the interior then is good for us. F.e. a Lincoln Navigator scores high on the list of the use of chemicals and is therefore mentioned as a car of concern. See healtycar.org of the same organization if you want to buy a new but safe car.
